-Cake- 1/2 cup shortening 1 1/2 cups sugar 2oz red food coloring 1 tsp vanilla 2 tsp cocoa 2 eggs 1 tsp salt 1 cup buttermilk 2 1/4 cups flour sifted 2-3 times 1 tsp baking soda -Icing- 5 Tbsp flour 1 cup milk 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup margarine 1 cup sugar 2 tsp vanilla
Directions
-Cake- Cream shortening, sugars, eggs, milk. Mix coloring and cocoa and then add to cream mixture. Add salt and milk alternating with flour Add vanilla Beat until smooth Add baking soda and blend but do not beat Bake 25 minutes at 350 in 2 greased and floured pans Cool on rack, split 2 layers with thread to make 4 layers and frost -Icing- Blend flour and milk until smooth. Cook and stir until thick. Let cool Cream butter, margarine, sugar, and vanilla and then add to flour mixture and beat for 5 minutes
